What the tours cover
Our volunteers guide you along the former production bunkers of the REIMAHG armaments plant at Walpersberg near Kahla (Thuringia). Using historic documents, photographs, aerial imagery and planning sketches you gain a well-founded insight into the events of 1944/45.
Learn more about the fate of more than 12,000 forced labourers from across Europe and the assembly of the first mass-produced jet fighter, the Messerschmitt Me 262. You will see remains of provisional production bunkers with up to four metres of reinforced concrete as well as traces of the infrastructure with several incline lifts and the concrete runway.
The circular walk leads across the former military grounds, which were in use until 1997. The special story of the relocation of German armaments production at the end of the Second World War becomes tangible here using the construction site “Lachs” as an example.
We take a lunch break along the way. Every tour also includes a visit to our documentation centre “Walpersberg – REIMAHG” in Großeutersdorf. The documentation centre complements the tours with selected exhibits, maps and archival materials. It opens after the tours and on request.

Important notes
The underground tunnels cannot be visited. The tour leads you across bunker remains made of reinforced concrete. Please bear this in mind when choosing clothing and footwear.
Please note our visitor regulations and liability declaration (house rules):
The documentation centre complements the guided tours with selected exhibits, maps and archival materials. It opens after the tours and upon request.
Our documentation centre deepens what you have seen on the tour: historical exhibits, eyewitness accounts, original construction plans and objects recovered from inside the mountain. It is accessible directly after the tours and by appointment.
Inside the documentation centre we present selected exhibits about the history of the REIMAHG plant and the living conditions of the people who were forced to work here. Visitors can study plans, materials, finds and previously unpublished archival material from our research projects. The centre is deliberately compact and research-driven – it keeps growing with new findings, eyewitness sources and discoveries from the grounds.
